Lyria's favourites: Café de Flore

Café de Flore

Paris | France

A legendary address in Paris.

Founded at the beginning of the French 3rd Republic in 1870, Cafe de Flore probably took its name from a sculpture of a goddess that could be found across the street. This café has been witness to great moments in literature and cinema; the Surrealists used to frequent the cafe and zazous also, before the directors of New Wave cinema started hanging out. Simone de Beauvoir spent whole days writing there, as did Sartre. Today, celebrities still drop in, notably in the evenings when the cafe hands out its Literary prize.
